North Kitsap wins sub-district track meet, Velarde wins state title again | Sports updates
North Kitsap tops sub-district meet
The North Kitsap High girls and boys track teams topped the Olympic League’s Class 3A sub-district championships Saturday at Port Angeles High. Port Angeles took second among the boys and the girls. Bremerton High was third among the girls and fourth among the boys. Olympic High was third among the boys and fourth among the girls.
North Kitsap’s next meet is the West Central District 3A championships Friday and Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
Velarde wins state championship
Hansville resident and North Kitsap High freshman Jake Velarde won the Washington State Wrestling Association’s Freestyle Championship at the 119-pound level Saturday in Spokane. Velarde also won the association’s Greco-Roman state title on May 1. He will compete as part of Team Washington at the USA Wrestling Cadet and Junior National Championships July 18-24 in Fargo, N.D.
Kingston bounced from playoffs
The Kingston High boys soccer team fell to Interlake High Saturday at the West Central District 2A tournament, 3-2. Kingston finished the season with a record of 13-2-2. Interlake will move on to the state Class 2A tournament as the district’s No. 2 seed. Sequim is the district’s No. 1 seed.
