The North Kitsap High boys soccer team opened the 2010 season with a 1-0 victory over the defending Class 4A state champion South Kitsap Wolves Monday.

North Kitsap forward Marco Lopez scored the game’s only goal in the 10th minute, collecting a bouncing ball at the top of the penalty box and lofting it over South Kitsap’s keeper for the score.

“We thought it was going to be a hard game,” Lopez said. “It turned out the way we wanted.”

North Kitsap’s next game will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at White River High in Buckley.
