The Kingston High School girls basketball team ran away with a 59-29 victory over the visiting Port Townsend Redskins Tuesday. Sophia Baetz led the Buccaneers with 29 points. Teammate Laura Wicklein added 12 points and six rebounds.
Kingston beat the Redskins by 39 points when they met earlier this season, but the teams were tied at halftime Tuesday, 18-18.
"We didn't come with too much intensity tonight," Kingston Coach Penny Geinger said. "I guess we thought it was a cake walk."
Kingston started the second half with renewed energy, going on an 8-1 run early. The Bucs went on to outscore Port Townsend 19-5 in the third quarter and 22-6 in the fourth to cement the victory.
Geinger lauded her team's second-half effort.
"They decided to play like they were capable of playing," she said.
