North tops Kingston in opening meet

The North Kitsap High School gymnastics team defeated Kingston High Saturday, 139.3 to 128.3. North Kitsap won the floor, beam and bars events, and Kingston won on the vault. North Kitsap’s Melissa Kunold was first in all-around points, with 32.55. Teammates McKenna Elves and Lauren Wageman took second and third overall, with 31.9 and 29.85 points, respectively.

Kingston will compete Thursday at 6 p.m. at Port Angeles High School. North Kitsap will compete Friday at 5 p.m. at Capital High School in Olympia.

BASKETBALL

North Kitsap girls beat Bremerton

The North Kitsap High School girls basketball team earned its first win of the season by narrowly defeating Bremerton Friday, 36-34.

Nikki Taplin led the Vikings (1-4) with nine points. Teammate Dahrien Cardoza added eight points. The Vikings host Port Angeles at 7 p.m. tonight.

Kingston boys fall to Port Angeles

The Kingston High School boys basketball team lost for the first time this season when Port Angeles defeated them Friday, 49-42.

Zane Ravenholt had 18 points for the Buccaneers (3-1). Antonio Stevenson led Port Angeles with 13 points. Kingston hosts North Mason at 7 p.m. tonight.

Kingston girls lose a close one

The Kingston High School girls basketball team lost to Port Angeles Friday, 56-54.

Sophia Baetz had 34 points for the Buccaneers (2-2). Teammate Laura Wicklein had seven rebounds and seven assists. Kingston plays at North Mason tonight at 7 p.m.
