Sports brief: Vikings, Buccaneers qualify for district meet

North Kitsap High’s Tyler Rencher qualified for the 3A district meet in the 100-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle Thursday in a match against Kingston High. Rencher finished the butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 0.14 seconds, and the freestyle with a time of 5:45.74.

Kingston High’s Jason Kramberger qualified for the district meet in the 2A division in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Kramberger finished the backstroke in 1:16.61. He finished the freestyle in 1:02.90, just 0.01 second behind his school-record time of 1:02.89, which he set Tuesday at a meet in Sequim.

Also qualifying for the district meet was the 400-yard freestyle team from North Kitsap, made up of Rencher, Troyce Musick, Ian Christen and Josh Despard. The team qualified with a time of 3:57.91.

North Kitsap won Thursday’s meet, 130-40.

The West Central District III swim meet takes place Feb. 12-13 at Hazen High School in Renton.
