In the first swim meet of the fall season, NK sophomore Bethany Aban set school records in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke, with times of 1 minute, 3.14 seconds and 1:11.51, respectively. Aban’s breaststroke time was also low enough to qualify her for the state tournament in the event.

Kingston’s Kaylie Manix dropped 15 seconds from her 200-yard freestyle time to post a district-qualifying time.

SOCCER

Kingston 2, Steilacoom 2

The Buccaneers came back from a 5-1 loss at King’s on Tuesday by tying Steilacoom Thursday, 2-2.

“We feel good about coming back with a tie, but we know we should have won,” said Kingston Head Coach Craig Smith. “We’re still evolving offensively.”

Alexis Ekonomakis and Tory Gerkhen scored for the Bucs.

North Kitsap 4, Gig Harbor 4

The Vikings tied Gig Harbor in their home opener Thursday, 4-4.

“With every score by Gig Harbor, we just started playing harder, and it showed really great character and grit,” Viking Head Coach Dee Taylor said. “We did some things very well, but we need a lot of work.”

First half — 1, Gig Harbor, 15th min. 2, North, Ashley Cole (Rachel Fisk), 19th min. 3, GH, 22nd min. 4, NK, Siara Byers (Delanee Nilles), 26th min.
