North Kitsap multi-sport star Zach Sampson signed this week to play professional soccer with the Kitsap Pumas Soccer Club. Sampson will be suited up and ready to play Saturday in the club's first preseason game, taking place at North Kitsap Stadium at 7 p.m. Whether he will start is yet to be decided.
"It's just a great opportunity," Sampson said of the signing. "And it's a stepping stone to a career in soccer."
Sampson, a senior, did not play for the NK High School soccer team this season, and has instead been commuting to compete as part of the Crossfire soccer club in Seattle. Sampson, who also plays football for North, is still undecided regarding his college plans, and will be ineligible to play soccer for a school as a result of going pro, but can still play football if he chooses.
"Right now, I'm going day by day," Sampson said. "I'm just enjoying this right now."
Tickets for the Pumas' preseason opener in Poulsbo are available at the gate or by contacting Jim Bilbao at (877) 400-3794 or jimbilbao@windermere.com. Prices are $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.
