SEATTLE — Beau Rabedeaux and Tyler Shuey battled back from a first-round loss, to eventually place eighth during the 2A Boys State Tennis Doubles Championships May 31.
The Kingston doubles team lost during the finals to Tumwater's Ryan Gudbranson and Nathan Eliason to end the tournament. Gudbranson and Eliason won 6-4, 7-6(6).
Rabedeaux and Shuey lost to Bellingham's Nick Nolan and Connor Thompson 6-2, 7-6 during the first round of the tournament.
Facing a loser-out situation, the Kingston team defeated Sumner's Brandon Walsh and Santo Domingo (6-1, 3-6, 6-2) during the quarterfinals.
The team then won over Clarkston's Gregory Arthur and Colby Savage in two (6-3, 6-1). The win advanced the Kingston team to the finals, where they played for fifth/eighth.
Washington's Jonathan Yu and Josh Rasmus won the championship. The team defeated Sehome's Max Shmolotohka and Reece Gilbert (6-1, 6-0) in the finals.
Kingston's Chelsea Rosebrook and Sarah Hamal were unable to last through the 2A Girls State Tennis Doubles Championships.
The team lost 6-1, 6-0 to Washougal's Christina Zack and Haley Briggs in the first round.
The girls were able to stay alive through the quarterfinals by defeating Colville's Hannah Greene and Mariah O'Brien (6-3, 7-6(5)).
In the semifinals, Rosebrook and Hamal lost to Ephrata's Demi Brekhus and Teighan Moore (6-0, 6-4), eliminating the Kingston team from the tournament.
Sehome's Lizzie Friesen and Simone Hall won the tournament over fellow Sehome players Madison Harris and Taylor Harris. The champions won in three (4-6, 6-3, 6-1).
