Undefeated Vikings win league title | Girls soccer
POULSBO — It may have been the Kingston Buccaneers who took the first shots on goal the evening of Oct. 28, but it was the North Kitsap Vikings who took the Olympic League title.
The Vikings defeated the Bucs 3-0 at North Kitsap Stadium, winning the league title and remaining undefeated.
Being undefeated is always what you shoot for, but it's never certain, Vikings head coach Chris May said about a week before the win.
"We try to win every game, but I don't know if we thought we'd do that," he said of the undefeated season.
The Vikings finished 16-0, in front of the second place Klahowya Eagles (13-3).
The loss to the Vikings bumped the Bucs (12-4) down to third.
The top five teams in the league are preparing to play in the Olympic League Tournament. The Bucs and Vikings play Nov. 2. The Bucs play the Eagles. The Vikings' opponent has not been determined.
Because of their top finish, the Vikings will host their first game of the tournament. The Bucs travel to Silverdale.
Though they finished at the top of the league, May said "nothing is locked up for District or State." The league tournament will determine placement into the District tournament, which precedes State.
