TACOMA — The North Kitsap Vikings girls varsity team played in the second round of the district tournament Feb. 14.

The Vikings defeated Franklin Pierce 55-43 Feb. 12 in the first round of the tournament. The loss eliminated Franklin from the tournament.

With the win, the Vikings had a better shot at surviving the tournament, which qualifies the team for Regionals.

The Vikings faced Sumner, which earned a first-round bye into the tournament, at Lakes High School Gymnasium.

The winner of the game plays the winner of the Olympic/Washington game at Foss High School. The losers of the two games play at Stadium High School. Both games are scheduled Feb. 16.

If the Vikings defeated Sumner, they were guaranteed at least a fourth-place finish and a spot in the regional tournament. The regional tournament is Feb. 22-23 and is the qualifier for the state championship at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

If the Vikings lost, they will play in a second loser-out game.

The Kingston Buccaneers lost their first game of the tournament to Renton, 53-26. The Bucs are out for the season.
