TACOMA — The North Kitsap Vikings girls varsity team will play in the second round of the District tournament Feb. 14.

The Vikings defeated Franklin Pierce 55-43 Feb. 12 in the first round of the tournament. The loss eliminates Franklin from the tournament.

With the win, the Vikings have a better shot at surviving the tournament, which qualifies team for Regionals.

The Vikings face Sumner, which earned a first-round bye into the tournament. The game begins at 7:45 p.m. in the Lakes High School Gymnasium.

The winner of the game plays the winner of the Olympic/Washington game at Foss High School. The losers of the two games play at Stadium High School. Both games will be Feb. 16.

If the Vikings can defeat Sumner, they are guaranteed at least a fourth place finish and a spot on the Regional tournament. The Regional tournament will be Feb. 22-23 and is the qualifier for the State championships, held at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

If the Vikings lose, they will play in a second, loser-out game. The Kingston Buccaneers lost their first game of the tournament to Renton, 53-26. The Bucs are out for the season.

Renton moves on to play Port Angeles.
