KINGSTON — The Kingston Buccaneers varsity team lifted its Olympic League record to 3-3 after crushing the North Mason Bulldogs on the road Dec. 18.

"We had a really good first half," Bucs head coach Blake Conley said.

The Bucs outscored the Bulldogs 21-6 in the first quarter and 12-14 in the second.

The Kingston team continued the momentum in the third quarter, scoring 25-17.

In the fourth, the Bulldogs scored 17 points to the Buccaneers' 13.

Kingston's Hans Schippers scored 14 points and had seven rebounds. KT Deam shot for 12 points and earned five steals.

The Buccaneer win over the Bulldogs rebounds the team from two, buzzer-beater losses last week. The Bucs have lost four total. The losses have all occurred in the last minute of the game, where the Bucs fell behind.

The Bucs need to finish their games strong, Conley said. Once they can do that, the team will "be pretty dang good."

The team's strength is in its defense, which is typical of Buccaneer basketball. Conley wants to see less turnovers and better shot selection.

Along with Schippers, who was the top scorer against the Bulldogs, Conley said Connor Wall and Kyle Hamal have also been stepping up their game. Wall has done a good job shooting, Conley said. Hamal, at 6-feet 7 inches, is doing a solid job on defense, Conley said.

The Bucs are next up against the North Kitsap Vikings (4-2), Dec. 21. The game is in the North Kitsap Gymnasium.

In order to compete with the Vikings, Conley wants the Bucs to have a high energy and to control the boards. The Vikings are playing with confidence, so "we're not overlooking them," Conley said.
