Kingston coach Craig Smith gets his wish: Bucs face Cardinals

SILVERDALE — Earlier this week, Kingston coach Craig Smith said he would prefer to face Franklin Pierce at Districts. He got his wish.
The Bucs face the Franklin Pierce Cardinals Saturday at 10 a.m. at Franklin Pierce High School.
This is the best shot at a State appearance the Kingston girls varsity soccer team has had, Smith said.
“It’s still an uphill battle for us,” he said. “A well-earned opportunity.”
This will be the highest seed the Bucs have had at a district tournament.
The first year the Bucs went to Districts, they faced Fife, the returning state champions. The next year, Fife again.
Following that, the Bucs faced White River, which finished second at State the year prior.
“We’re still underdogs,” Smith said. “But we’re not taking on a top team in [Washington].”
The Bucs earned the No. 3 seed to Districts with a 3-2 win over Olympic Wednesday night — the game started around 8 p.m.
Rebecca Tafte scored all three goals, two which were headers. Kelly Nash earned two assists. Sarah Zuarri got one assist.
On paper, the matchup against the Cardinals is even. Both teams seeded third to Districts.
