POULSBO — Festivities and events celebrating the best 13-year-old baseball players in the Babe Ruth League will soon be under way.

Nine teams traveling to Kitsap for the tournament were set to arrive Monday. A coaches breakfast is scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a hitting clinic hosted by former Dodgers infielder Jim Lefebvre at 10 a.m.

For community members looking to meet the 10 teams in the tournament, a parade is scheduled for 5 p.m. in downtown Poulsbo.

Following the parade, a banquet at Kiana Lodge is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Lefebvre will be the guest speaker.

The events precede the 2012 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series, which begins Wednesday. The tournament will be held at Gene Lobe Field at the Kitsap Fairgrounds.

The first three games of the tournament will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. An opening ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Kitsap County All-Stars — the host team — will play Bryant, Ark. at 7:30 p.m.

With pool play scheduled through Aug. 20, the top three teams will transition to single-elimination starting Aug. 20. A tournament bracket can be viewed here.
