Kingston needs a new community center

Coming this August is the ballot measure for the Village Green Metropolitan Park District. The purpose of this measure is to secure a funding source to provide maintenance funds for the proposed Kingston Community Center. As you may or may not know, our current community center facility is in a converted church bordered by a state highway on both sides. How’s that for community spirit?

Funds to build this new facility come mainly from grants and donations. The largest of those require that the agency have secured a maintenance funding source. Look at our current facility and the reason is obvious.

The MPD measure establishes a locally based funding source, not at all unlike a school levy. The MPD will be governed by five board members elected by you and from your community. The MPD is transparent, meaning you have control over how your money is spent.

If you are skeptical, that’s fine, but that usually comes from misinformation and hearsay. Visit www.kingstonvillagegreen.org to get the facts. To be informed means to be empowered.

This is your chance to actually support the community you live in. If you missed the chance to be a part of Village Green Park construction, which by the way saved thousands due to you and your neighbors’ hard work, this is your chance to get involved.
