On reading the report of the Kingston Kiwanis scholarships in the (Oct. 16) Herald, I thought about the way that my brother, Bud Meredith, would react on learning that his friends in the organization are offering a scholarship in his name and the name of Cy Wyse to graduating high school seniors in North Kitsap. Bud would have been honored, of course. I can see him sitting at his kitchen table as I enter with the day’s edition of the Herald in my hand. As he often talked about items in the Herald, I would assume that he had read the Kiwanis report before I arrived.

“What do you think about the Kiwanis awarding a scholarship in your name,” I would ask.

“That’s a surprise to me,” he would probably say. “That’s mighty nice of them. Tell them thanks, thanks a lot.”

For Bud Meredith, I say thanks to the Kingston Kiwanis and to the Herald.
