Further to Lauryn Christean’s letter of July 10, Referendum 71 seeks to preserve traditional marriage because traditional marriage is a public institution that serves the best interests of society. Children raised within a traditional marriage produce citizens who are happier, healthier, and more prosperous than those raised in any other household situation. Society gives benefits to traditional marriage because traditional marriage benefits society.

In addition, signing the petition will not change the law rather it will serve to have the measure put on the ballot in the Fall. Perhaps Ms. Christean prefers to be governed by a political elite in Olympia rather than have the people decide.
