Letters to the Editor

Poulsbo, support your local businesses

For the past 33 years, I spent my life on Front Street in downtown Poulsbo.

My sister and I opened Holly Haus in November 1979 and our other shop, Hearts & Homespun, in January 1987. I recently closed Hearts & Homespun in the old bank building. It was a very tough decision to make, but I felt that I wanted to retire and enjoy life outside of retail.

I would like to thank everyone who enjoyed and supported my shop. Many of you became good friends as well as customers. To you, I am extremely grateful.

I also want to thank my fellow merchants from over the years. As one can imagine, I’ve seen lots of businesses come and go, but the enthusiasm and love of Poulsbo was always there.

Please know that it is your downtown merchants who provide all of the beautiful flowers that you enjoy each summer. They hand out candy each year at Halloween for the little ones. They pay for all of the Christmas decorations which they hang each year. They write all of the letters to Santa and make sure that every year Santa has a place to sit and visit with your young ones. They pay for the fun hayrides during the holidays. The city does not provide any of these fun things. It is your downtown merchants that pay into a fund to provide great events for you, the general public.

Please say “thank you” to each and every retailer on Front Street. And if you really love seeing your downtown bustling with activity, please visit and enjoy it. Buy a cup of coffee or have lunch. Browse through the many fun shops and buy something now and then. These merchants are part of your community and they deserve your love and support.

Once again, I would like to thank the people of Kitsap County and beyond for loving and supporting Holly Haus and Hearts & Homespun for 33 years. I miss all of you.
