Hansville volunteers maintain greenway

February 15, 2013 · Updated 11:30 AM

I’m writing in reference to Gene Bullock’s article about bird watching in the Hansville area (“Kitsap’s premier bird-watching destination,” page 5, Feb. 8 Kitsap Week).

The article is really great. There are, indeed, many opportunities to pursue bird-watching. One item, though, should be cleared up.

It seems to be a common misconception that the Hansville Greenway trails run through Buck Lake Park. This is not the case. The Hansville Greenway and Buck Lake Park are entirely separate. Once you enter the greenway, you are no longer in the park.

Although the Kitsap County Parks Department is responsible for both areas, the county maintains the park with county employees. We of the Hansville Greenway Association maintain the Hansville Greenway. We are an all-volunteer stewardship group and are proud of our work. We just want people to know that. You may visit us at www.hansvillegreenway.org.
