Help pack boxes for children’s gifts

November 2, 2012 · Updated 2:42 PM

Thanks to the generous efforts of many residents and business in Kitsap County, thousands of hurting children worldwide will have the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas.

Residents of the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas have joined Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, to pack an estimated 8,000 shoe boxes with toys, school supplies and necessity items. These gift-filled shoeboxes will make their way into the hands of children in 100 receiving countries.

For many of these children, receiving these simple shoeboxes will be the first gift they have ever received.

Our annual Community Shoe Box Packing Party is Saturday, 1-4 p.m., in the Poulsbo Library, 700 NE Lincoln Road, in the downstairs community room.  Our goal is 500 filled boxes. This is a free event where every resident can make a difference in the life of a child.

Nov. 12-19 is collection week. St. Charles Anglican Church in Poulsbo is a drop-off center. An estimated total of 9.1 million will be collected across the U.S. during collection week for 2012.

This is a worthy cause beyond measure.
