Chance to donate food via postal carriers

A week from now, on Saturday, May 12th your postal carrier will be collecting non-perishable food that you leave by your mailbox.

This marks the 20th year that mail carriers around the nation have helped the millions in our country who struggle to keep food on their tables. In Poulsbo, the recipient of this food is Fishline. Fishline has been serving our community for the past 45 years with much needed food and emergency services.

Almost all of us know someone who has been affected by the severe recession of the past few years. At Fishline we see it everyday. Last year we distributed more than 1.25 million pounds of food to needy families in our community. The need is even greater this year.

I am personally moved by the generosity of our community and the more than 200 volunteers at Fishline who give back to their neighbors in need. I wish I could say that the need is lessening, but I can’t. So I hope you will mark your calendar and put out a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox for the postal carrier to pick up.

We are grateful to our mail carriers who take on this extra duty each year and to you, our neighbors, who so generously give to your neighbors in need.

Thank you.
Walt Lasater
Pres. Fishline Bd. Of Dir.
