Upset over salary for superintendent

April 13, 2012 · Updated 10:34 AM

Well into spring, our temperatures are rising. So are the tempers of taxpayers on learning that the North Kitsap School District’s new superintendent will make a $140,000 base salary, a total package of $188,000 (“New NK superintendent offered 140K per year,” page A10, April 6 Herald). These $48,000 add-ons raise her pay by 34 percent. Health care at $35,000.

She’ll work 48 five-day weeks. That’s $783 per day, or $98 per hour. Plus travel and conferences!

I intend to ask questions of our school board for agreeing to this rich deal. Only Scott Henden, elected last year, voted against it. But, the final vote better not be a done deal. otherwise temperatures will rise at the North Kitsap School District administration center.
