The article by Port of Kingston Commissioner  Pete DeBoer in the November Kingston Community News, page 11,  was timely and informative as we approach Election Day.  The accomplishments of the port in the last five years are most impressive and have been well within the budget. Please note that the tax we pay has actually declined from 23 cents to 18 cents per $1,000 assessed value.

The newly elected commissioner will participate in the next five-year comprehensive plan the state requires. Already, public meetings have and are being held to identify projects our community hopes to accomplish. Surveys have also been mailed asking residents to submit suggestions.

One of the projects under consideration by the port is the parking problem. There is no plan until a facility, location and time frame can be identified.

In my opinion, Port Commission candidate Walt Elliot brings unsurpassed credentials to ensure the continued success of the Port of Kingston.

And, thanks to previous commissioners who have so ably served the Kingston community.
