Johnson Creek letter misleading
December 3, 2010 · 10:24 AM
I have been a member of the Poulsbo Trails Committee since its inception in December 2008 and I am writing in regard to Gene Bullock’s letter of Nov. 26 pertaining to a trail along Johnson Creek.
There is no “Johnson Creek Trail.” The Poulsbo Trails Committee put a line on a proposed pedestrian map as a conceptual off-street trail to connect to the Clear Creek Trail when and if it makes its way north – perhaps 10-20 years from now. The input the committee received from citizens via an online survey and numerous public outreach events indicated that it was important to connect with trails outside the city limits. The trails mentioned were the North Kitsap “String of Pearls,” Big Valley Road (for bicyclists) and Clear Creek Trail. The conceptual off-street trails lines were drawn merely to document the desire to make connections. There certainly would be no trail through private property without the owners’ consent and thorough environmental impact studies.
I fear Mr. Bullock’s letter was based on rumor and without benefit of reading the trails plan or talking with those familiar with the work of the committee.
