The Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management has activated the county's Severe Weather Shelter Plan due to cold and snowy weather forecasts.

The shelter, located in the Communitas building at 920 Park Ave. in Bremerton, will open Monday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. It will serve all citizens in the area who need safe overnight shelter otherwise unavailable to them.

Hours of operation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m. The shelter will close for the night at 9 p.m., after which time no one will be allowed back inside.

Continued activation of the county's Severe Weather Shelter Plan is contingent upon future weather predictions.
