A 13-year-old student at Kingston Middle School was arrested Thursday for fourth-degree assault, Kitsap County Sheriff’s spokesman Scott Wilson said.

The sheriff’s office was notified Thursday that an incident had taken place on a school bus the previous day. The school’s resource officer and school officials investigated and arrested the male student for “inappropriate contact” against a 13-year-old female student, Wilson said. The male student was taken into custody and released shortly afterward. The case was handed over to the Kitsap County Prosecutor’s office for charging. A court date is yet to be set.

Fourth-degree assault is classified as a gross misdemeanor under Washington state law.
