POULSBO — A 22-year-old North Kitsap resident is facing DUI charges after admittedly partaking in marijuana, Vicodin and Percocet before going for an early-morning drive.

Eyewitnesses told Kitsap County Sheriff's deputies the man was driving erratically at about 3 a.m. Dec. 5 when he caused a two-car collision near a driveway on the 24000 block of Bond Road NE, near Stottlemeyer Road. An eyewitness reported seeing the man driving his Honda “about 100 miles an hour” behind them, causing them to pull over and drive on the shoulder so the Honda did not hit him.

Once the Honda passed the eyewitness, the Honda began “swerving all over the road” the report states. The Honda then hit the guardrail and began spinning in the opposite lane, where it struck the front end of a Buick. The Honda came to rest in a ditch. The driver attempted to drive out of the ditch but gave up.

The driver then got out of the car and checked on the others involved in the accident. A witness told the driver she would call the police, causing the driver — who was wearing only a T-shirt and jeans — to take off running into the woods. Once sheriff's deputies and an ambulance were on the scene, the driver came back out of the woods. He was covered in stickers and scratches, the report states.

Although he could not produce an insurance card, he did show a sheriff's deputy his identification card allowing him to smoke medicinal marijuana. After he was handcuffed and placed into the back of the deputy’s car, the deputy shined a light onto his face so witnesses could identify him as the driver. With the light on him, he swayed back and forth as though he was dancing, the report stated.

During the ride to Port Orchard, his moods swung from happy to sad, as he at one point cried when he realized he was going to jail. At the Kitsap County Jail, he registered a .192 and a .217 on two separate breathalyzer tests.

He was booked into jail for driving under the influence, hit and run and threats. His bail was set at $35,000.
