The Kitsap County Health District will administer 5,000 H1N1 flu vaccines Wednesday at a free clinic in Silverdale. The clinic will run from 3-7 p.m. at the Silverdale Methodist Church, 9982 Silverdale Way.

Vaccines will be doled out those who fall into five priority groups:

  • People ages 6 months to 24 years

  • Pregnant women

  • People ages 25 to 64 years with chronic medical conditions

  • Caregivers of infants less than 6 months old

  • Healthcare and emergency medical workers

Required vaccination screening and consent forms can be downloaded at the Health District Web site, www.kitsapcountyhealth.com. Parking will be limited and carpools are encouraged.

The Health District hopes to provide vaccines to the general public in coming weeks, district spokeswoman Chris Craig said.

Craig said the district has been receiving weekly vaccine shipments from the federal government and has distributed about 20,000 vaccines this season.

H1N1 cases appear to be declining in Kitsap County, but Craig said some experts expect cases to rise again during the traditional flu season in January.

"No one really knows," Craig said.
