Kitsap Transit bus hits, kills pedestrian

POULSBO — An adult female pedestrian was struck by a Kitsap Transit bus and killed at about 7:33 p.m. on Highway 305 at Johnson Way.
Witnesses told the Washington State Patrol the woman, who was wearing dark pants and a light shirt, was walking on the southbound shoulder and crossed the road. She was struck by in the northbound lane by the bus, which was headed from Bainbridge Island to Hostmark, according to Washington State Patrol Spokeswoman Trooper Krista Hedstrom.
The 60-year-old bus driver’s name has not yet been released. There were nine passengers aboard the bus, which had just loaded passengers from the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal. No one aboard the bus was injured.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kitsap County coroner was working on identifying the woman and notifying her next of kin. The state patrol has the northbound lane blocked but is alternating traffic.
