Firefighters passing the boot for burn victims
September 23, 2009 · 12:40 PM
Firefighters with Poulsbo Fire Department and North Kitsap Fire and Rescue will be collecting donations Saturday, Oct. 3 to help burn victims.
The fundraising drive coincides with the annual Northwest Burn Foundation's Give Burns the Boot and begins Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 4 to 10.
The two departments will also be marking the occasion with fire escape planning contests in local schools. The schools and classrooms that return the highest number of plans will win an ice cream sundae party hosted by firefighters.
Donations for the Give Burns the Boot will be collected at Home Depot on Olhava Way, Central Market off State Highway 305, downtown Poulsbo and the Poulsbo and Kingston Albertsons.
Money from the drive pays for programs and services, including the Northwest Burn Foundation's annual summer camp for young burn survivors. It also helps pay for emergency housing for families with loved ones being treated at Harborview Medical Center's burn unit.
