Tommy Walters, who sets up his lemonade stand at Best Friend Antiques in Port Gamble during the summer, is once again headed to Ohio to compete as the Kitsap Soap Box Derby Local Stock Champion in the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship in Akron.

Drivers compete locally or as a Rally Champion (based on a season of points) during the year to accumulate enough points to qualify for the national competition. After a week of preparation in Akron, racers compete for titles July 25.

The lemonade stand is part of Walters’ effort to fund his trip. Last year, his small business was one of Inc magazine’s “Lemonade Stands of the Week” and he was featured in a Herald story last June.
