Fire danger issued for Kitsap, surrounding areas

POULSBO — Due to high temperatures and chances of thunderstorms Aug. 11-12, the National Weather Service issued a fire danger warning for Kitsap County.

The fire danger — or red flag warning — is in effect from 5 p.m., Aug. 11, to 5 p.m., Aug. 12.

Thunderstorms are expected to begin near the Cascades and spread north and west. The risk of thunderstorms are expected to remain until the evening of Aug. 12, according to the weather service.

The combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to fire danger.

Temperatures are expected to reach mid- to high 80s in the north end of the county, according to the weather service. Poulsbo could see temperatures nearing 90 degrees.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms are expected in the north end Aug. 12, according to the weather service.

Areas on the east side of Puget Sound and Bainbridge Island are expected to see thunderstorms beginning the evening of Aug. 11.
