Sex offender apprehended in Poulsbo

By KELLY JOINES

Staff Writer

POULSBO — Richard Lee Campbell, a 50-year-old level III sex offender, was arrested last week at a residence on the 22200 block of Sea Vista Drive in Poulsbo.

He was among the most wanted by the U.S. Marshals. A warrant was issued for his arrest by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office for failure to register as a sex offender.

Cambell was renting a room and working for local DC Construction company located on Hansville Road.

The family he was living with had no idea of his prior convictions.

"He used to work for me. I did not know he was a sex offender," said home and company owner Darrell Cox, 38. "The two policemen just came to the door and just said they had a warrant for his arrest. When I looked him up on the computer and saw what he had done in the past I said, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa.' I just couldn't believe it."

Cox said he has a young daughter at home and would have never let Campbell stay there if he'd have known about Campbell's past.

"The weird thing about it is that he never showed any weird signs about anything like that," Cox said. "He was a good person, until I found out."

Operation FALCON (Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally) led by the U.S. Marshals were in charge of leading the sweep that led to Campbells arrest.

Operation FALCON resulted in 133 other arrests throughout Western Washington, clearing 159 warrants, according to a press release.
