Runners gathering to honor Boston Marathon victims
Runners and community members from around Kitsap County plan to gather in Silverdale Tuesday night to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
Community members are invited to gather at Waterfront park in Old Town Silverdale at 6:30 p.m. There will be a moment of silence at 6:45 p.m. and the run itself will start at 7 p.m.
An event has been created on Facebook with information and is open to the public. At the time of publication Tuesday afternoon, more than 50 people had RSVPed.
"…We're going to send our message, and the sounds of our feet will be our voice," the event's description says on Facebook. "We don't run from … things, we run TO them. We help how we can."
The run is part of a world-wide event set to occur at different locations around the globe, called Runners United to Remember. More than 50,000 people have RSVPed worldwide.
Run organizers ask that participants print out a race bib designed for the event to wear during the run. A copy of the race bib is available here.
Organizers emphasized that the gathering is not a fundraiser, but merely a show of support and solidarity.
