Three minors arrested after Scandia barn fire
June 10, 2008 · Updated 7:24 PM
SCANDIA An historic local barn that has been destroyed by a blaze that fire officials believe was caused by juveniles.
Crews from the Poulsbo Fire Department and Puget Sound Federal Fire Department were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. Sept. 27 on Scandia Road and Viking Avenue.
Crews were able to extinguish the flames quickly, however the barn was a complete loss, fire officials reported.
A nearby chicken coop caught fire from the heat of the barns blaze, but crews were able to put it out before it damaged the coop or the chickens inside. Crews were also able to defend a nearby home from the flames.
If the fire had spread, the damage could have been worse, fire officials reported. The barn was in the middle of a dry grass field and stacks of hay were inside the structure. Afternoon winds could have encouraged the fire to spread but the crews were able to prevent that from happening.
Monday afternoon, Kitsap County Sheriffs deputies arrested three minors, ages 12, 13 and 14, on the suspicion of second-degree arson.
