HOOD CANAL — Motorists using the Hood Canal Bridge this week may want to include additional time in their schedule when crossing the floating structure.

Scheduled bridge maintenance is expected to take place Oct. 23. There will be alternating traffic on State Route 104 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone.

Workers will be changing out light bulbs on the bridge, said Lloyd Brown, communications manager for the Olympic Region for Washington State Department of Transportation.

This is one of several scheduled maintenance repairs for the year.

“It’s part of keeping the existing structure functional,” Brown said.

As for the Hood Canal Bridge upgrades and renovations, work has started to take place at the bridge, Brown said. But the construction of the graving dock in Port Angeles has been put on hold, as workers have come across some Native American artifacts. Officials from WSDOT are consulting with local tribes in the PA area about found items and further digging.
