Booking a huge crowd

"Grand opening brings hundreds to brand new Valborg Oyen Library. POULSBO - I had to come back to make sure it didn't disappear like Brigadoon, Muriel Williams said Sunday as she entered the decorated threshold of the Valborg Oyen Library. Williams, a long-time Friend of the Library, had been to the donor appreciation night the evening before and was attending the grand reopening and ribbon cutting celebration. Hundreds of other happy patrons were on hand as well. They enjoyed each other's company, refreshments, speeches, art, books and floral arrangements by none other than Barb Mitchusson. This is absolutely beautiful, a teary-eyed Waldmar Oyen told the crowd. Oyen, son of the late-Valborg Oyen after whom the library was named, went on to explain how much the library meant to his mother. It was not long before she passed away that the library was named after her, Oyen said. She was very, very proud that day. The sense of pride at the newly renovated library was community wide and overwhelming, librarian Susan Lavin agreed before announcing, Let the reading begin. Most of the kids who were present were way ahead of Lavin though and already had their noses in books while munching on treats and toying with balloons at the time of her declaration. Mayor Donna Jean Bruce and Lavin got the celebration rolling by cutting the ribbon to the entrance. The ceremony was followed by musical performances by Edward Dupuy and Mary Ann Cole as well as Miss Poulsbo Ashlee Redfern. Stories were read as locals from near and far flocked to Little Norway's newest gem. I hope you come back and check out lots of books, Mayor Bruce told those in attendance. With thousands and thousands of books and a population that has been waiting over a year for a new library, it shouldn't be a problem. "
