"Location, location, station location..."
June 10, 2008 · Updated 5:33 PM
"For months that stretched into years, NKF&R, Hansville and Poulsbo Fire Departments have been working on a complex jigsaw puzzle of a map that balances population growth projections, traffic on narrow roads, and a necessity to provide prompt emergency response time to all areas of North Kitsap. Fire commissioners have studied station sites across North Kitsap, held numerous community meetings and even merged their local departments in efforts to provide the best, fastest possible response. Then at the eleventh hour, an appeal of NKF&R's proposed satellite station site on S. Kingston Rd. was filed by the Tulin Rd. neighbors. Their concerns were best answered, we believe, by NKF&R's own records that show emergency vehicles use Tulin Road now without causing problems. Emergency vehicle drivers receive special training in navigating their oversize vehicles down narrow back roads. They routinely drive many narrow roads. We think the Kitsap County Commissioners made the right call on this one-they approved the S. Kingston Rd. location for the right reason-it helps meet the goal of improving the emergency response time to everyone in North Kitsap. "
