New home for honor pole
January 24, 2013 · 5:34 PM
LITTLE BOSTON — Members of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe raised an honor pole in front of the new early childhood education center in Little Boston on Wednesday.
The 5,100-square-foot education center is being built on the site of the former education center, which was built in 1939 and was smaller and outdated.
The pole, which stood in front of the old education center, honors educator June Jones’s commitment to children. The pole was carved by her husband, Jake Jones.
