Ted retired in 1991 as a federal administrator for Native Amrican programs, Region X. Karlene taught and was director of Native American programs for the North Kitsap School District for several years. She retired in 1997 as a teacher-trainer for a national education system.

The Georges enjoy travel and celebrated their anniversary with a cruise of the Hawaiian Islands earlier this year.
