Little Sisters await their crowning moment

POULSBO — When the new Miss Poulsbo is crowned March 25 at the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center, she won’t be alone.

A youngster who has cheered her along the way will join her at the coronation and continue to be her Little Sister for the next year.

This lucky Little Sister will be Miss Poulsbo’s constant companion as she travels the state competing in the Miss Washington pageant and promoting Little Norway.

All of the Little Sisters will participate in the Viking Fest Parade and a number of other events that are part of the program designed to provide mentoring opportunities for young women.

One of the hopes of the program, which began seven years ago, is that the little sisters will step onto the stage as contestants in the pageant, which annually awards more than $20,000 in scholarship money. Until they’re ready to take the stage in that capacity, the Little Sisters can look forward to the experience and to receiving a tiara from Dahlquist’s Fine Jewelry in Poulsbo.

The 2006 Miss Poulsbo Little Sisters are:

• Jessica Tobel of Kingston, daughter of Dawn and Carlo Tobel. Little Sister to Bria Trujillo.

• McKenna Kelley of Poulsbo, daughter of Diana and Troy Kelley. Little Sister to Heidi Nicks.

• Connie Sue Vargas of Poulsbo, daughter of Marcy and Jim Vargas. Little Sister to Tosha Stabler.

• Rebecca Darrow of Poulsbo, daughter of Toni and Scott Darrow. Little Sister to Julia Humphrey.

• Makenna Cardoza of Silverdale, daughter of Lesley and Jose Cardoza. Little Sister to Brenna Gardner-Brown.

Tickets for the pageant are available at Dahlquist’s Fine Jewelry in Poulsbo and Nilsen’s Appliance centers in Poulsbo and Silverdale. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger and seniors. After party tickets are $7 per person.
