Rifles stolen from truck

at park and ride lot

HOOD CANAL — A 37-year-old Sequim resident reported two rifles had been stolen of the cab of his truck between 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. April 24 at the Hood Canal Bridge park and ride at the intersection of State Routes 3 and 104, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

The 2002 Toyota Tundra had the passenger window broken, the cab was ransacked, and the rifles hidden under a blanket on the passenger seat floor area were gone, deputies said.

They checked to see if the rifles had been licensed to the man, and the were not. The man also didn’t have serial numbers for the rifles, and said he would check when he got home.

Car gets extra crispy

behind Pizza Factory

KINGSTON — A 1992 sedan that caught fire behind the Pizza Factory in the Kingston Thriftway complex could have been much worse if not for quick action by restaurant employees, according to North Kitsap Fire & Rescue officials. The fire ignited at about 8 p.m. April 24 after an employee stopped to pick up more pizzas to deliver. Another employee saw the flames, told the driver and evacuated the building while calling 911, NKF&R officials said.

The fire was quickly put out and found to be accidental by investigators. It was parked near 500-gallon propane tanks, and the blaze could have easily spread to the buildings and the tanks, officials said.
