POULSBO — For the next two weekends, drivers will once again find themselves at the mercy of State Route 305.

The Agate Pass Bridge will be narrowed to a single, alternating lane during the weekends of July 28-29 and Aug. 4-5 from 5 to 9 a.m. as annual inspection work gets underway.

Delays of up to 15 minutes are expected, and the Washington State Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to plan their commutes accordingly and leave themselves plenty of extra time for travel.

The inspection work will require the use of an under bridge inspection truck, or UBIT, which makes it necessary for the work to be done during daylight hours.

Crews will be checking the overall condition of the bridge.

“Every year, they go and check it out,” said WSDOT communications spokeswoman Kelly Stowe. “It’s to make sure there’s no extra wear and tear.”

Agate Pass Bridge currently averages 22,000 vehicles per day. For more information, call 511 or visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ for road and traffic updates.
