PHS set to host Pioneer Christmas

POULSBO — The Poulsbo Historical Society is ringing in the holiday season pioneer-style, celebrating the simplicity of Christmases past.

The society will host “Christmas at the Cabin,” an open house event at the Martinson Cabin from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 15. Admission is free, although donations will be accepted.

Visitors can take in the preparation of traditional Norwegian food, see period clothing both worn and in mid-creation on a treadle sewing machine, learn about turn of the century life in Poulsbo, construct holiday crafts and play traditional games with cabin docents.

The open house program was created by PHS student volunteer Elisabeth Dornink, a volunteer docent at the cabin.

She has studied textiles, period clothing and traditional sewing techniques.

The Martinson Cabin is located in Nelson Park at Poulsbo Junction, across from Cenex. The entrance to the park is located on Lindvig way next to JRO Licensing.

For more information on this and other Martinson Cabin programs, contact the society at (360) 440-7354.
