POULSBO — Donna Etchey, publisher of the North Kitsap Herald, has named Celeste Cornish as the newspaper’s new editor. Cornish has been with the Herald since November 2007, covering the North Kitsap School District and sports.

“I am very excited to have Celeste as our new editor,” Etchey said. “I have faith that she will do a great job in bringing the North Kitsap Herald to the next level of excellence.”

Cornish was born in Fresno, Calif. She grew up in Hanford, Calif. A 1990 graduate of Hanford High School, she earned a bachelor’s in mass communication/journalism from California State University, Fresno, in 1996.

She began working in newspapers in 1996, and worked in Georgia and South Carolina before her husband’s Navy career brought her to Washington in 2002.

Cornish previously worked for the Kitsap News Group from 2003-05 at the Bremerton Patriot and the Central Kitsap Reporter.

“I’m humbled by this awesome responsibility I’ve been entrusted with to ensure the Herald reflects the community we serve,” she said.

Cornish lives in East Bremerton with her husband, Bryan, and their 7-year-old son, Joshua. Etchey and Cornish have been discussing ways on how to increase community involvement in the North Kitsap Herald. Cornish can be reached at editor@northkitsapherald.com or by phone at 360-779-4464.
