POULSBO — Residents of a portion of North Kitsap have one week to turn in applications to be considered for the District 3 director position on the North Kitsap School Board.

The board is looking to fill the position vacated Aug. 23 by Kathleen Dassel, who resigned. The new board member will take office Oct. 11.

Letters of application are due by Sept. 12. The board will hold a special meeting Sept. 19 to interview the finalists selected. The new board member will be selected Sept. 27 during the scheduled board meeting.

The District 3 director must live within the east side of the peninsula, which includes a portion of Poulsbo, Suquamish, Miller Bay and Indianola. The boundary map can be found here.

The person selected will complete Dassel's term, which ends December 2013. In order to continue serving, the appointed board member must run for election.
