Jefferson County man killed, Suquamish man injured in North Kitsap crash

SUQUAMISH — A Jefferson County man died and a Suquamish man remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a vehicle crash late Aug. 22, between Suquamish and Poulsbo.

According to a Kitsap County Sheriff's Office report, Wayne D. Stewart, 41, of Chimacum, was driving a Ford Windstar van southbound on Columbia Street with the Suquamish man, age 24.

The crash was reported at 9:38 p.m. Aug. 22 just sound of the intersection of Columbia Street and Lincoln Road. According to the report, the van left the roadway, crashed through a fence and struck a large tree. The passenger was ejected through the windshield, and Stewart, the driver, was partially ejected. Neither men were wearing a seatbelt.

Both men were sent by medic units to Raab Park, where they were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Stewart, identified by the King County Medical Examiner's Office, died at the hospital.
