The Paddle to Squaxin 2012 website is livestreaming Canoe Journey protocols from Kamilche, the capital of the Squaxin Island Tribe. Watch it here. The site also has a protocol schedule.
Squaxin is hosting the 2012 Canoe Journey; among the indigenous nations participating are Port Gamble S'Klallam and Suquamish. Also participating is the Suquamish-based Sacred Waters Canoe Family. Their protocols are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The Canoe Journey is an annual cultural celebration. Some 98 canoes traveled from their home territories, stopping at indigenous territories along the way, landing in Olympia on Sunday for a week of honoring and sharing, including traditional dances, songs and stories. Protocols started Monday and continue through Sunday.
