July 30, 2012 · 1:41 PM

Two medical airlifts have been ordered to take the injured off Bainbridge Island from a vehicle crash at the Agate Pass Bridge shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.

The accident was on the Bainbridge Island side of the bridge. Two vehicles heading north hit the guardrail in the northbound lane right before the bridge.

The first airlift took off just before 1:30 p.m. from the Bainbridge Island Fire Department's fire station on Madison Avenue. A second helicopter was en-route to the fire station to pick up another person who was injured in the collision.

Details of the accident were still sketchy. An initial report indicated a BMW and a Cadillac were involved.

Highway 305 has been closed to traffic, according to the state Department of Transportation, and the Washington State Patrol is at the scene of the crash.

The highway will remain closed until 2:45 p.m.
