Kitsap County commissioners expect to appoint a state senator Wednesday. Rep. Christine Rolfes, D-Bainbridge, is the top choice of county precinct committee officers to succeed Phil Rockefeller, who resigned to accept appointment by Gov. Chris Gregoire to the Northwest Power and Conservation Council.

The Canoe Journey — a gathering of canoe families from indigenous nations in British Columbia and Washington — will stop at Port Gamble S'Klallam and Suquamish next week.

And three people are vying for a position on the North Kitsap School Board.

Those are the top stories in the July 15 North Kitsap Herald, available now in stores and on newsstands.

The July 15 edition has 36 pages in two sections: News, Opinion, Letters, Sports, North Kitsap Calendar, Obituaries, Kitsap Week, Kitsap Calendar, Kitsap Classifieds, Real Estate Now, and Public Notices.

Special features in this edition: Class of 2011 Scholarships and Awards, and this weekend's Tour de Coop on Bainbridge Island. Also included are USA Weekend and local and regional advertising inserts.

The Herald has been the Voice of North Kitsap since 1901. For convenient home delivery, call (360) 779-4464 or email cdano@northkitsapherald.com.
